Thank You God!

Cancer: Thank you God

Becky and I are so very thankful for your love, friendship and continued prayers for us! You guys are an INCREDIBLE source of GRACE, ENCOURAGEMENT, STRENGTH and JOY as we navigate our "Most Excellent Adventure" with cancer!!

A number of you have asked when my medical treatments will start – meaning, when will I be begin radiation, hormone therapy and/or chemotherapy treatments. To answer that question, I need to explain the two primary approaches to cancer: 1) The medical approach, which includes surgery, radiation, hormone therapy and chemotherapy and is focused primarily on eradicating/killing the cancer and 2) The non-medical approach, which includes dietary, nutritional, supplemental and lifestyle changes and is focused on primarily on strengthening the body’s own immune system to heal itself of cancer.

Since being diagnosed with Stage 4 aggressive prostate cancer in May and undergoing a radical prostatectomy, Becky and I have decided to take an integrated approach in addressing my cancer -- some medical but, for now, mostly non-medical protocols, including:

1. Keeping my focus on loving God, loving others and making disciples and using the time I have to share the life-transforming message of the Gospel from the platform of cancer! (I LOVE living what I call the EPIC LIFE and, like Joseph and Paul in the Bible, engaging it by the grace of God in the power of the Holy Spirit right in the middle of the adrenaline-inducing challenges of life!)

2. Eating a purely non-GMO vegan diet with no sugar, processed foods and limited carbs. (I never thought I’d be a card-carrying vegan, but the benefits are so profound that I plan on continuing on with a modified vegan lifestyle even if I am ultimately cured of cancer – it’s that amazing!!

3. Drinking a 32-ounce vegetable/fruit smoothie every morning: carrots, asparagus, broccoli, green apples, red grapes, beets, ginger and lemon. (Thanks, Kevin and Andrea Weston-webb, for buying me a NutriBullet and getting me started on this!)

4. Drinking a 16-ounce cold pressed vegetable juice that contains celery, cucumber, kale, chard, parsley, turmeric, ginger, garlic, apple cider vinegar and chili pepper. (Thanks, Kenneth Rutz, for introducing me to the “Selfie” from Kauai Juice Company!)

5. Engaging in the Cellect-Budwig Protocol on a daily basis. (You can check it out at https://www.cancertutor.com/cellect_budwig/)

6. Taking a daily cancer-specific coffee enema that stimulates the detoxification of my liver and kidneys. (Never thought I’d be giving myself enemas, but I’m willing to do whatever helps to strengthen my immune system and heal my body!)

7. Biking 15-20 miles every other day, swimming 1.5 miles every other day, lifting weights, surfing for two hours at a pop, hiking, open-ocean kayaking between 5-16 miles once or twice a week and staying very active. (Hahaha! Can you believe it?? I’m on doctor’s orders to engage in 1.5 hours of intense aerobic and anaerobic exercise every day! Have I told you recently how much I LOVE cancer?!?)

8. Taking a monthly PSA blood test to get clinical clarity on whether or not the non-medical approach is working. If it is, I will continue on with what I am doing and happily avoid all the significant damaging side effects of radiation, hormone therapy and chemotherapy. If it isn’t, I will evaluate the most appropriate medical protocols with my oncologist and gladly engage in whatever provides the best hope of successfully addressing my cancer.

Overall, I’m feeling really good, my energy level is excellent and the preliminary report obtained in my most recent PSMA PET MRI scan is promising! If I didn’t know I have cancer -- I wouldn’t know I have cancer! Having said that, I realize that I am in the early stages of the disease and it’s anybody’s guess where my circuitous and adventure-filled journey will take me!

All I know is that God is good, the Bible is true, the Gospel is redemptive, the Bride is beautiful, the Time is short, the Mission is clear, Prayer is powerful and the Eternal Kingdom is near! So, GO BIG! MAKE IT COUNT! LIVE THE EPIC LIFE!!!

Finally, I want to thank my wonderful wife, Becky, for all her research, support, effort, patience and love as we juggle marriage, family, life, ministry and cancer! Girlfriend, you are AMAZING!!!
