Founders: Bob and Becky Hallman

As a young boy growing up in Hawaii, one of the furthest things from Bob’s mind was becoming a pastor!

Once, when he was 10, Pastor Jim Cook laid his hand on Bob’s head and said, “God has a call on your life for full-time ministry!”  However, Bob spent the next seven years ignoring that call while pursuing excellence in sports and academics. At age 17, realizing he was still unfulfilled despite numerous achievements and influenced by the lives of fellow students who had been “born again”, Bob knelt by his bed and recommitted his life to Christ.  He felt an incredible lifting of guilt and was filled with an intense love for God and others.

Becky initially committed her life to Christ at a very young age and renewed that commitment while in college. During and after college, God confirmed his calling on Bob’s life through a variety of leadership opportunities and fruitfulness in ministry.  In 1983, he became the Associate Pastor at Calvary Chapel Honolulu.

Pastor Bob met lovely Becky at church and together they partnered in the Youth and Singles' ministries, eventually falling in love and marrying (1987).

Desiring further training, Bob and Becky left Hawaii for Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary in Massachusetts where Bob graduated with a Master of Divinity.  It was also during this formative time that Bob became convinced of the immense value of personal discipleship.  He was able to implement and focus primarily on leadership development and discipleship while ministering at a church in New York.

Becky earned her Master of Science in Education and the Lord graciously blessed Bob and Becky with two amazing sons.  In 1996, after many years of ministry in the northeast, God clearly led Pastor Bob and Becky across the continent, back to Hawaii, to minister at a small, struggling church (originally Calvary Chapel Kaua'i; renamed as Crossroads Christian Fellowship).

Kaua’i

For the next 23 years, Pastor Bob and Becky poured their heart and soul into building a healthy fellowship that was committed to 1) Loving God, 2) Loving Others and 3) Making Disciples. What was once a barely-surviving church became known as a very unique, loving, outreach-oriented fellowship. Over many years, God blessed the church beyond anyone’s expectations: launching three radio stations, entrusting the church with 66 acres for ministry development, establishing Kaua'i Bible College, planting new churches and setting up a drug rehabilitation program.  Together, Pastor Bob and Becky developed many new ministries and regularly equipped and trained new leaders. Becky loved leading the Women's ministry, developing studies and raising up new leaders.

Cancer

In 2017, Pastor Bob was diagnosed with aggressive stage 4 prostate cancer and was not expected to live very long.  As a result Pastor Bob began the process of transferring leadership and officially retired in 2019.  God truly blessed Bob with a longer life than expected and an incredible joy and peace as he embraced cancer, his new platform for sharing Christ!  Bob continued to coach or mentor young leaders and provided support for others with cancer. Becky has continued in her teaching career and loves working with her students!

Pastor Bob and Becky loved going on dates and enjoying outdoor exercise together. They also cherished the times they had to spend with their wonderful adult sons, daughter in law and granddaughter!

Celebrating in Heaven

On December 24, 2021, after about five years of cancer, Bob finished his earthly race and joined the heavenly saints. He’s finally at home with the Lord! Read the update on his finishing his race here.

What’s Next?

Bob ordained their son, Michael, as he recognized the clear calling that God has on Mike’s life. He’s finishing up his Master of Divinity degree at Talbot while continuing to work with youth on the island and with having fellowship hosted by The Epic Life. Becky is continuing to make Bob’s sermons and sermon notes public as he had a strong desire to help younger leaders in sermon preparation. She looks forward to more ministry with women.

Our Story

Years ago, at a Discipleship conference in Massachusetts with our Discipleship leadership team, we had the privilege of having lunch with Leroy Eims (Navigators ministry) and we mentioned to Leroy that our team was feeling a little stagnant.

We had been taking our leaders through a two-year Navigator 2:7 program that was very comprehensive but long.

““How’s your evangelism? If you’re not actively sharing your faith, you’ll grow lifeless.””

— Leroy Eims

Right away Leroy asked, “How’s your evangelism? If you’re not actively sharing your faith, you’ll grow lifeless.” We knew right then what our problem was! On our four-hour trek back to New York, we (Bob & Becky) spent the entire time brainstorming ways that we could evangelize! Upon our return to New York, we tried everything: doing surveys at the local college, going door-to-door (not such a good idea in the dead of winter!), having neighborhood block parties, sharing with friends, and so on!

A few years later, clearly led by God, we moved across the continent and ocean to gorgeous Kaua’i where Pastor Bob took the helm of a struggling church that was about to close its doors.

Over 23 years, we poured all our energy into equipping the saints in evangelism and discipleship. Over time, the fellowship blossomed, grew and became very fruitful.

Over many years of active evangelism, one of our fellowship’s signature outreaches was the annual Farm Fair where we offered free face painting, gift card drawings, combined with surveys which opened the doors for our team to lead hundreds to Christ!

Undoubtedly, every year, people on our team, ages 10-90, would be anxious and nervous about sharing the Good News! But we’d do it anyway, and the Holy Spirit gave each of us so much JOY in evangelizing! If we can overcome our hurdles and fears of sharing the Gospel, YOU CAN too!!
